### INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES

Write your Name, Centre number and Candidate number in the spaces provided on the answer paper/answer booklet.

### Answer all questions.

If a numerical answer cannot be given exactly, and the accuracy required is not specified in the question, then in the case of an angle it should be given correct to the nearest degree, and in other cases it should be given correct to 2 significant figures.

If a numerical value for \(g\) is necessary, take \(g=9.81 \mathrm{~ms}^{-2}\).

### INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES

The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the end of each question or part question.
The total number of marks for this paper is 120.
Within each section of the paper, questions are printed in the order of their mark allocations
The use of an electronic calculator is expected, where appropriate.
You are reminded of the need for clear presentation in your answers.

This question paper consists of 7 printed pages and 1 blank page.

ABCD is a square of side \(x \mathrm{~cm}\). OBC is a sector of a circle centre O and radius OB.

Calculate, giving answers to 3 decimal places, the

### (a)

angle AOB in radians,

### (b)

area of the shaded region when \(x=5\).

## Question 2
Solve the simultaneous equations:

$$
\begin{aligned} | \log _{2}(8 y)=x+5 | 4^{x}=3 y
\end{aligned}
$$

## Question 3
Find the turning points of the curve \(y^{3}+3 x y^{2}-x^{3}=3\).

## Question 4
### (a)

If matrix \(\mathrm{A}=\left(\begin{array}{lll}3 | 1 | 4 2 | 3 | 1 2 | 1 | 1\end{array}\right)\), find \(\mathrm{A}^{-1}\), the inverse of matrix A.

### (b)

Hence, or otherwise, solve the simultaneous equations:

$$
\begin{aligned} | 3 x+y+4 z=15 | 2 x+3 y+z=12 | 2 x+y+z=10
\end{aligned}
$$

## Question 5
### (a)

Show that \((2 r+1)^{3}-(2 r-1)^{3}=\left(24 r^{2}+2\right)\).

### (b)

Prove by induction that a number \(\mathrm{U}_{n}=2^{6 n}+3^{2 n-2}\) is divisible by 5 for all positive integral values of \(n\).

## Question 6
### (a)

Find the real part of \(\left(2+\frac{1}{2} i\right)^{8}\), giving the answer in exact form.

### (b)

It is given that ( \(x+2 \sqrt{2}\) ) and ( \(x-2 \sqrt{2}\) ) are factors of the polynomial \(f(x)=x^{4}-6 x^{3}+a x^{2}+b x=104\).

#### (i)

Find the values of \(a\) and \(b\).

#### (ii)

Hence, or otherwise, find the roots of the equation \(f(x)=0\).

## Question 7
### (a)

A plane has vector equation \(r \cdot\left(\begin{array}{r}2 -3 1\end{array}\right)=1\) and the point P has coordinates \((-9 ; 17 ;-2)\).

#### (i)

Find the coordinates of the foot of the perpendicular from \(P\) to the plane.

#### (ii)

Hence, or otherwise, find the coordinates of the image of \(P\) when reflected in the plane.

### (b)

The plane \(\pi\) and the line \(l\) have equations
\(r \cdot\left(\begin{array}{r}2 -1 -1\end{array}\right)=6\) and \(\frac{x-2}{1}=\frac{y-3}{2}=\frac{z+1}{-2}\) respectively.

Find the

#### (i)

coordinates of the point of intersection between \(\pi\) and \(l\),

#### (ii)

angle between \(\pi\) and \(l\),

#### (iii)

shortest distance from the origin to \(l\).
