INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS 2167/2 Compiled by Mr Tasara O THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914-1918 The First World War broke out in 1914. It started as a European war but by 1917 it became purely a world war as it involved United States of America, Asia, Canada, Australia, Brazil, China, the Caribbean Islands and most of Africa. The cataclysm came as a disturbing calamity to the relative peace and tranquillity which the people of Europe had enjoyed since the end of the Napoleonic wars.
